About Write-TEL (Original Call)

Welcome to Write-TEL (Writing for Publication in Technology-Enhanced Learning).

ORIGINAL CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

The purpose of Write-TEL is to provide Edinburgh Napier colleagues with a supported, developmental opportunity to write for publication in the area of technology-enhanced education. Write-TEL is aimed primarily at colleagues who feel they are doing good work in the area of technology-enhanced learning, teaching and assessment that they would like to disseminate more widely via a peer-reviewed conference submission, journal article, or other peer-reviewed published output.

New to writing for publicaton in TEL? That's no problem, as Write-TEL is intended to take you through every stage of the writing for publication process including:

  • Preparing to Write for Publication
  • Writing for Your Chosen Outlet
  • Drafting and Review
  • Prepating for Submission

Format and support Write-TEL will comprise a series of four online ‘writing for publication’ workshops (one each month), and associated one-to-one and peers support activities, starting in early April 2011 and concluding early July 2011 with the final preparation of a submission for your chosen journal or peer-reviewed conference.

The Write-TEL online workshops will be led by Dr Nicola Whitton, Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University.  Nicola is the author of Learning with Digital Games: A Practical guide to Engaging Students in Higher Education (2009, Routledge), a reviewer for several TEL journals and conferences, and a previous proceedings editor for the Association for Learning Technology Conference. The workshops will be facilitated by Dr Keith Smyth.

What's in it for you?

By taking part in Write-TEL, you can expect to benefit through:

  • Participating in four online workshops designed to engage you in every aspect of writing for publication in technology-enhanced learning. The workshops will support you in actually writing a paper for submission to a chosen outlet, as well as equipping you to take your writing for publication in TEL to the next stage beyond the end of the course itself
  • Having dedicated one-to-one guidance and support for drafting, reviewing, and writing your paper at key points before, during and at the conclusion of the four workshops
  • Enriching and broadening your own knolwedge of TEL through the sharing of experiences with other Write-TEL participants, and through being engaged in exploring key journals in the field
  • Coming out of Write-TEL with a completed paper ready for submission to your chosen peer-reviewed outlet, and with a plan for continued authoring in the area of TEL

What's expected of me?

Participants in Write-TEL will be required to participate in the following four online workshops, all of which will take place in an ElluminateLive virtual classroom:

  • Preparing to Write for Publication (Friday April 1st, 2.00-3.30pm)

  • Drafting and Review (Friday June 3rd, 2.00-3.30pm)
  • Preparing for Submission (Friday July 1st, 2.00-3.30pm)

Part of the activity time outlined above will be used to produce a case study of TEL practice for publication in the Edinburgh Napier LTA Resouce Bank.
