I am new to this teaching game - I've just come from Channel 4 News - so I don't know what level of technical ICT experience to expect from my students.  I'll find out in a week.

Following a successful first run last year, which saw several participants produce their first published paper relating to their work in the area of technology-enhanced learning, Write-TEL (Writing for Publication in Technology-Enhanced Learning) is back!

What is Write-TEL 2?

Write-TEL 2 is an online initiative that provides colleagues with a well supported, developmental opportunity to write for publication in the area of technology-enhanced learning.  It is aimed at colleagues working in Higher Education, or another area of education, who feel they are doing good work in the area of technology-enhanced learning, teaching and assessment, and who would like to disseminate this more widely through producing their first TEL related paper for publication via a peer-reviewed conference, journal, or other published outlet.

Write-TEL 2 is being offered by a cross-institutional team from Edinburgh Napier University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Aston University, and the University of Salford.

Places on Write-TEL are limited, due to the one-to-one support participants receive, but are open to colleagues from across and also beyond the partner institutions. Write-TEL 2 is free to participate in, although we will ask for your time and commitment as detailed below!

What does Write-TEL 2 involve?

Write-TEL comprises a series of four online ‘writing for publication’ workshops, and associated one-to-one and peer support activities, starting mid-May 2012 and concluding end of July 2012 with the final preparation of submissions for a chosen journal or other publication outlet.

Participants will be asked to take part in each of the online workshops (although they will be recorded if there are any you can’t make), and to devote an average of 3 hours a week to the online and writing activities that will take place between the workshops.

In return, you will also receive one-to-one ‘critical friend’ support from one of the Write-TEL 2 team: Julia Fotheringham (Edinburgh Napier University); Chrissi Nerantzi (University of Salford); Dr Keith Smyth (Edinburgh Napier University); Karen Strickland (Edinburgh Napier University); Dr Panos Vlachopoulos (Aston University); and Dr Nicola Whitton (Manchester Metropolitan University) who will also be leading the online workshops.

The online workshops for Write-TEL 2 will take place real-time in Blackboard Collaborate, with peer support and other online activities taking place in Moodle.

The general themes, dates and times (in UK time) for the online workshops are as follows:

Introduction to writing and getting published in TEL (Friday May 18th, 2.00-3.30pm)

Writing for your chosen outlet (Friday June 1st, 2.00-3.30pm)

Drafting and review (Friday June 29th, 2.00-3.30pm)

Final preparation and submission (Friday July 27th, 2.00-3.30pm)

SIG-Internationalisation provides a supportive community for Teaching Fellows and other colleagues who have an interest in internationalisation to keep up to date in what is happening both in the university and elsewhere. It provides an opportunity for like minded people to share expertise in internationalisation, to mentor each other in developing learning and teaching, and research in internationalisation, and to jointly develop further expertise by tapping into internal and external resources and new developments.

The Transform website has grown out of the cross-institutional TESEP (Transforming and Enhancing the Student Experience through Pedagogy) project that was undertaken by Edinburgh’s Telford College, Lauder College, and Napier University, and which focused on teaching, technology and institutional transformation.
